We are a laid back couple who loves to cook, try new things, and travel the world! We like lux and we like casual. Depends on the mood. We also aren’t writing this blog for money. We have far more than we need… and this is mostly for friends and family. If we have affiliate links, we let you know ahead of time.
Between the two of us, we have 6 children who we deeply love. All grown up now….so you might be able to guess our ages 🙂 We have been traveling together for well over a decade and have learned so much from our travels.
Our Goals:
Learn about new cultures and just write about things we like. We started this blog to inform our family about our travels, frustrations, and worries, but we started sharing it with friends we have met on the way from all over the world. But frankly… we are boring and so is this blog! LOL
We always stay positive. You’ll notice we never post bad reviews. If we go to a restaurant or hotel that we don’t like, we are not going to post a bad review, we are just not going say anything. We have been to 100’s if not 1000’s of places we wouldn’t recommend as great, but are perfectly decent.
What we’ve found is that people asking are looking for the top recommendations for the short time they are visiting somewhere, so we try to highlight those places. We’ve been invited to dine/stay in some really fancy places we loved, and some not so much. When we criticize a place, that place is amazing, or it wouldn’t be on the site. It’s just our way of saying what we’d like to see “improved”, from really good to freaking amazing.
We do realize that saying this is incredibly arrogant. We are certainly not the deciders of taste or preferences. And so our “complaints” remind us how very lucky we are to even have the ability to say “the mashed potatoes weren’t the best I’ve had”. We are coming from a decidedly North American palate and preferences.
Far too many people (including us years ago) don’t have the option of picking what to eat, let alone where to eat… so we definitely appreciate the fact that we can even say a restaurant needs to improve.
We’ve stayed at 5 star hotels, hostels, camping spots, and places we’d never, ever, return. You’ll only ever see the places we like and would return to.
Why wouldn’t we give a negative review?
Because as former restaurant owners, we know people’s life’s are actually on the line. Some poor waiter who was up all night because his wife was having labor pains might be the reason for the shitty service. And if we are going to publicly publish a shitty review of the waiter, and his employer read that review, he might be fired, and not be able to feed his newborn or even pay for the birth, so if we were the cause, well then, we aren’t good people getting someone fired. And we want to be good people.
So we only highlight places we really like and return to often.
Final notes:
Selling our last restaurant as we saw the economy here in Argentina getting ready to crash was heartbreaking because we had to let our own employees go. They stayed until the last day, and we remain lifelong friends.
If we are promoting something, it is because we like it. Sometimes we get compensated e.g. a resort will pay for our trip. But always without a promise of a positive review. And we always let you know if we would be compensated in some way.
EDIT: August 2019, edited this page a little to fix spelling/grammar and add note that I hid previous posts to revise.
